Description
For auction a very rare 1950-60s Tiwi ceremonial armband, created by Bob one apuatimi,from ironwood bark and decorated in traditional style.It comes in excellent condition with the original gallery tag ,bathurst island art,identifying the artist and comes complete with feathered adornments.It measures L340mm x W140mm x 70mm at its deepest.The armband is used in the kalamba ceremony,an important event centered around the yam season and initiation for young men.Bob apuatimi was born 1925 and passed away 1976.Another work attributed to him is held at the art gallery of new south wales,a pukumani grave post c1958.The starting price for this piece reflects not only its importance as a tiwi work of art,but also its condition and provenance.Do not hesitate to contact myself with further questions,i will try my best to answer any queries you may have.Postage will be by registered couriers only and will be arranged at buyers expense after auction is complete.
