miguel122240 Store The QUIMBAYA civilization was a COLOMBIAN civilization,noted for its spectacular goldwork and ceramics.They inhabited the areas of the departments of Quindio,Risaralda and Caldas and around tghe areas of the great cauca river were they initially established but it is currently set around the first century B.C. They reached their apogee of development during the 4th and 7th century A.C.This people inhabited the valleys of the middle cauca river and were outstanding hunters as well artist.They made distinctive ceramics figures,the type here illustrated were mostly ceremonial,representing family and friends of a deceased member of the community. These society usually incinerated their dead and deposited their ashes in pottery urns,and then they placed pottery, and household vessels with gold and tumbaga objects,as well as  THIS figures that represents family and friends that will serve as guardians and/or companions for the deceased. This figure seated with both arms resting on the knees,each limb encircled by incised bands,the face with slit eyes and mouth,nose pierced for ornaments and perforations along the top of the head and the upper body,this perforations represent the centers of energy and were usually adorned with feathers and gold or tumbaga ornaments.This figure is in a perfect condition,still with the dirt attached to the body,it's beautifull! This figure was considered to be authentic by a group of experts,whose names will be in the certificate of authenticity provided with the figure.This piece has been in my personal collection since the 1980's and his provenance will be detail as well in the certificate.Authentic pieces like this are priceless objects according to the Colombian Gold Museum and the Colombian institute of Archaeology and since the 1990's they have been considered by law a national treasure.
