This is a one piece parchment/skin map drawing of the North Coast of Irian Jaya, now called Papua. Acquired in 1989, this old parchment was by itself, measuring approx. 49 cm wide x 46 cm wide, probably dating to the turn of the 20th Century. I had the frame custom made by a local artisan. This unique old skin map has a multifacited central star eminating in all directions throughout what is now called Cenderawasih Bay. Points of interest are several islands and corresponding villages as well as villages down the back of the "birds head" from Doreri (present day Manokwari). Quite a few Wandamen Bay villages are listed as are villages around the coast. This very old parchment/skin is stiff and brittle, has a couple small holes, numberous age spots, etc.  It will be shipped separately from the wood frame, which is included in this offering.
