Signed: Marie & Julian (confirmed signature) The black on black signature has proved impossible to scan and very difficult to image. Two attempts are pictured below. Maria innovated the renaissance of San Ildefonso & Santa Clara blackware pottery. Julian (her husband) decorated much of her pottery until the 1940s. After his death, much of her pottery was decorated by her student Santana Roybal. Later her son Popovi da took over his fathers work. Many bios are available on the web. Approximately 3.5 inches tall and 7.75 inches diameter. There is light scratching throughout, but this piece is at least 65 years old. There is a minor underglaze flaw in the rim (see below). Structurally sound, in very good condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. Porvenance: From an esteemed New Mexico Collection Collector wishes to remain anonymous.
