I am told that all the figures came from an important Belgian collection, and have been in storage for some years. Most have collection stickers to their bases, and all as far as I can tell, have considerable age, hopefully my photographs will help. This is a Yoruba maternity figure; that item she is holding is probably meant to represent a baby. The blue is Reckitts laundry dye - the Yoruba were/are very keen about blue, which they consider to be magical. 52.5cm tall, and in good condition though some minor splits. Polychrome decoration and covered in thick encrustation.
