Kuba beaten Barkcloth with Raffia Type of Object: Textile Ethnic Group: Kuba-Bushoong Country of Origin: Democratic Republic of Congo Materials: Raffia fibers, bark Approximate Age: 20th Century Dimensions: 75 x 27 inches Overall Condition: Good, small holes Additional Information: This particular variety of textile is known as NTSHAKISHEEN. It is quite different from other varieties of Kuba raffia textiles. The field is triangles of barkcloth in contrasting shades. The borders have elaborate geometric patterns with raised work. The edges have elaborate overcast stitching. The condition of this piece is good. There are small holes and seams that need to be restitched. Old and used.
