An Antique African Mask (Late 1800's-Early 1900's) from the Northern IBO (IGBO) Tribe in Western Africa.  The IBO are found north and south of the Niger River.  Used for ceremonial dancing (Only  worn by men).  Represents a "Good Spirit" in a Adololescent Male  "Coming of Age" / Rite of passage (Dealing with Virginity / Virility / Copulation).  The mask has open eye slits.  Hand Carved from a thick but "light" wood with carving in levels (to different depths) and textures......The Mask is light brown with traces of white pigment with brown highlights.  Good condition for its age (Clear signs of wear from age/use/display/handling-No Major Damage)  We had considered donating it to a museum, but I am sure it will make someone very happy....as it did my Father in Law. It was the focal point of one of his favorite College Lectures).  What you see is what you get.  No returns Email questions prior to bidding.  I have other pieces for sale at auction and in my store.  I am happy to combine shipping and would consider shipping this item international.
