Fali Cache-sexe Type of Object: Artifact Ethnic Group: Fali Country of Origin: Cameroon Materials: Cotton, dyed, old medallions Approximate Age: Early 20th century Dimensions: 18 x 18 inches Overall Condition: Used Damage, Repair: holes in places Additional Information: Among some Cameroon groups, women wore simple pubic aprons known as "caches sexes" (literally - "to hide the sex") until around 1961, when governmental restrictions required women to be fully clothed. However the tradition continues in a number of handwoven and ornate beaded forms worn today. Fali women of northern Cameroon wore pubic aprons made of small cotton strips covering the sex and held in place by a belt of cotton cloth.
