Up for auction is one of three ancient Pre Columbian items that we obtained years ago from the famous author and Polynesian scholar Dr. Terence Barrow and quite frankly forgot we had. Measuring 15 1/4" in height this was gifted to Dr. Barrow in the 1960's from the famous Thor Heyerdahl of Kon Tiki fame who was a close friend and associate. The information we were given at the time was that this piece was from Western Mexico and dating to 100-300 A.D. and was most likely Jalisco in origin but was also possibly thought to have been Nayayrit as well. Totally out of our main area of expertise, we were told by Dr. Barrow before he passed away in 2001 that the figure has a bud of "peyote" in his hand and mouth and represented a shaman.
