Description
Up for bid is a beautiful hand-painted oval wood plaque created in Panama. This plaque is skillfully decorated in pre-Columbian style using deep red-brown, orange, and black paint. Its dimensions are 20.5" wide by 15.75" high. Inscribed in black paint/ink on the reverse, "Motivo Indio - Pre-Columbian de Panama, Pigmentos Nativos Descubiertos, for Diana, (?) for Carlos L. Chiari, Panama 1934 (or 1954). I'm not able to identify the wood type but it is a soft wood with nice grain and medium brown color. The decoration shows normal wear (a few scratches and nicks) and several edge areas are a little rough; there is one small dent along one edge. The plaque is wired for hanging. None of the wear detracts from the beauty and the presence of the piece. For what it's worth this piece came from the (Cincinnati) estate of a well-traveled couple that collected fine antiques. This is a beautiful piece of art and it would make a great addition to any Latin American decor. Happy Bidding!
