This fine example has a beautifully braided bonnet that is held together by 10 animal horns. 11 Magic packets of material adorn the top of forehead which are held in place by nails. One of the packets has come a little loose around the nail, revealing pieces of hair or herbs inside. I have read accounts of these bundles containing elders hair,herbs,bones,etc. Long tubular eyes and a gaping mouth are features of the Guere peoples masks. This one has both plus a fabulous monkey fur beard that hangs down a foot from the bottom of the mask. This example also has a couple of animal horns that are attached to the nose and appear like tusks. Long Streamers of orange colored burlap material hang on both sides that are used to make the elaborately braided bonnet that is caked with clay.
