Description
Antique Spanish Colonial Painting, Retablo Archangel Hadriel This is a beautiful Spanish colonial retablo from South America depicting the Arcangel Hadriel, also known as Jofiel, whose name means "Splendor of Jehovah". The antique retablo is oil on tin. The style of the painting is La Escuela Cusqueña, a school of artistic mastery that evolved from the churches and monastaries in Peru and Bolivia, and the portrayal of the archangel in colonial clothing is a common theme. The retablo, except for the portrayal of the Archangel, is dark and weathered around the perimeter, and there are slight bends in the tin. The portrayal of the angel, though, is wonderful! This is an exceptional painting for the collector of devotional and Spanish Colonial art. Measurements: Approx. 6" x 8" Nomad's Journey offers collectors fine devotional and ethnographic art and antiquities from Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
