Please email me at info@tookalook.com The Cihongo mask of the Tchokwe (Angola) is a male mask which is meant to be worn only by the tribal chief and/or his son. During its 'exhibition' by either of these men, the wearer of the mask is offered gifts as a sign of yeilding to his superior social grade. An excellent example Ca. 20th Century, the enclosed is most typical in its 'flat' beard and prominent coffee bean shaped eyes. Symbolizing wealth and power, it is one of the Tchokwe's most important masks.
