Description
Here is what I do know about the item up for bidding, per my research. It is believed to be originated from the Great Plains region of American, It is believed to have been made between 1900 - 1930. It is comlpetely handmade, original gorgeaous stitching and knotting. The colored boder of blue, green, pink, umber and yellow look to be some kind of hand-pigmented tempera of some kind. The inside image, that of a 'man' on a platform in a pose perhaps to suggest he is training the two horses he is facing, look to be maybe a combo of paint and some king of chalk? The hide and the wooden frame are in excellent condition for the age. There is a pencil "signature" on the back that looks like HONER. This would seem uncharacteristic of the time, Believing this to be a piece not made for sale or credit. It may be a name of the maker, assuming this was a personal drum, used in "daily' ritual. Or it could have been written in by a previous owner or their child. That aside, A very intriguing subject matter and curious, exact point of origin. I know there are alot of assumptions with this drum, and at this time I wish I could be more specific. It is my deep hope that someone on Ebay will recognize this for what it is, Tribe, subject, etc., and if so Please feel free to contact me. I am really more knowledgeable in the area of Southwest Native collectables. I do know on good authority that this is a museum quality, excellently kept, old, traditional Native drum, made by hand and painted by hand. I really feel like i am letting this go for a good deal! I hope you like it! Diameter is 10". Depth is 1 1/4". Man Posing Facing Two Horses, w/ Multi-Colored Border of Triangles. All of my sales are always final, and sold AS IS. Be in touch! Thanks for looking!
